The stone circle is said to be at least 3,500 years old. And when it was constructed would have had at least 20 stones. It is situated on Ilkley Moor and now only 12 millstone grit stones remain and many of these have fallen over.  Much erosion as taken place running through the middle of the circle as this is a public foot path.  It is not sure exactly why it would have been built but it is thought it would have had something to do with the summer and winter solstices.
