 It was built by convicts in 1828 and was originally used for grinding grains. It is the oldest building in Queensland. Over the years it has had many uses including a museum, signal station, fire brigade and a place for television research. It is now a weather observatory. The outside as cement render to protect the building from rain water, the latest render dates from 1988.People have reported a strange presence from the building and some feel uncomfortable when near/in it.
