The first owner was Reverend George Sheed who hoped to have it as his own church which he could minister, but sadly he died before it was completed, the first service to be held there was for his funeral. It next became a home for Otto Ives and his family in 1833; he then sold it on to George Gordon Brown Leith in 1855, who turned it into a modern home with outbuildings, by 1861 it was a fully working farm. In 1865 he sold a small piece of land to his daughter and her husband who built their own home there they sold this on in 1870.
The ruins are said to be haunted by people who once lived there, including Alma. Whispering voices are heard and the site fills you with a strange eerie feeling, which is not helped by the surrounding woodland which is also thought to be haunted. Many people who have been there have reported that they have heard the sound of footsteps behind them, and when they have looked at the house from a distance it seems that there are faces peering from the windows.
