The lighthouse was completed in 1875 and was built with an external staircase. It was originally intended to be built to replace the light at Seal Rocks, but landing was a problem, so it was built at its present site. Along with the lighthouse 3 cottages, some outbuildings and a jetty were also constructed. The light was upgraded in 1923 and it was automated in 1987, yet despite this it continued to be manned for many years and a caretaker is still on site today. Community & Resources
