Captain James Conway Langton was given squatters right to a large piece of land in 1843, after he brought the freehold for the land, he built a house in 1851. He named it Ellendale. The property was sold in 1862 to Charles Ibbotson. In 1865 along with Frederick Dalgety, they founded a wool broking company, the success of this allowed them to build their own homes.Charles then gave the house to his daughter Fanny in 1882, whom was married to John Clee. It is hought the house was renamed to spray farm after Charles was impressed by Captain Joshua Slocum became the first pareson to circumnavigate the world single handedly on his boat The Spray. After becoming abanded for 20 years the property was sold in 1973 and was brought by someone who did very little to restore the house. It was sold on by a morgages auction in 1994, by the Browne family., who over 6 years restored the property to its former glory.
