The Nu’uanu Pali Lookout meaning Cool Height Cliff overlooks the 985ft cliffs of the Ko’olau Mountain Range. This was the site of the gruesome battle in 1795 where King Kamehameha I and his warriors defeated the O’ahu armies by sending them over the cliffs to their deaths. In 1845 the first road was built to connect Windward O’ahu with Honolulu. This road was developed into a highway in 1898, during this time hundreds of skulls were discovered which were believed to be the remains of the warriors. In 1959 the road was replaced by the Pali Highway and Nu’uana Pali Tunnels.
The lookout is said to have a lot of paranormal activity with many ghosts being reported including a man, a woman and soldiers, silhouettes among the trees and strange lights.
