This is a bronze age stone circle which is on Stanton Moor. It consists of nine upright stones that form a circle about 11 metres across. In 1976 a tenth stone was discovered lying under the turf, it had fallen many years before and the drought that year had revealed where it was. There is another stone about 40 metres from the circle which is known as the King Stone.
The legend goes that nine women and a fiddle player were turned to stone for dancing on a sunday. At the time dancing on a church day was punishable by excommunication, (to deprive or suspend a person from a religious community). The circle of stones are the ladies and the king is the fiddle player.
Also if legend is to beleved the nine ladies still sometimes continue to dance at midnight.
