The house was built in 1832 and had the most up to date technology for that era.For 100 years it was home to the Tredwells who were a wealthy merchant family. Also at the house there was 4 live in servants who were on call day and night for all the family’s needs. The last descendent to live at the house was Gertrude Tredwell , she died in 1933 in one of the bedrooms. The house was then opened to the public in 1936 and continues to this day as a museum with original furniture, clothing and other memorabilia. The house was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965, in 1981 it was designated as a New York Interior landmark and it is also placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is thought to be haunted, at least 9 people have died there and it some of these that are still wandering around, one that is regularly seen is a petite women who walks through the kitchen.Also it is told that when the name Tredwell is typed on the computer it has a habit of freezing.
