The memorial stone was laid in memory for Charlotte Dymond, who was murdered in 1844; her crippled boyfriend was blamed for this and hung for the crime, even though the likeliness is that he was innocent.

Since her death and especially on the anniversary of her death Charlotte is seen dressed in  a gown, with a red shawl and wearing a bonnet
