This stone circle is actually more of ellipse shape. It consists of several outlying stones, the largest of these is Long Meg, who is 12 feet tall and built out of red sandstone and the corners of the stone face the points of a compass .Away from this stands a circle of 59 stones - her 'daughter' stones, they are made of rhyolite. It is thought the stones date to around 1500 BC.
There are a few legends that go with these stone circles. It is said that the stones were a coven of witches who were celebrating sabbath, they were turned to stone when a saint found them. If the stones are moved or destroyed it is said terrible luck will fall on whoever was responsible.
And the stones are supposed to be uncountable, that a person who counts the stone will not reach the same amount twice.
