This site seems to have been constructed in 2 parts, the first the earthen long barrow during the early Neolithic time and the passages and burial chambers during a later period of the Neolithic time. After excavations of the site it was found that the site would have been used for many burials of people of all ages for at least a thousand years. Also many grave goods such as pottery were found. It is thought the site would have been used for ritual events on the Solstice. Today the stone chamber is open to visitors and is still used by modern day pagans for their ceremonies.

It is said that a ghostly white figure with a pale coloured hound visits the circle every midsummer’s day and is seen entering the mound at sunrise.
