After Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, his body was transported back for burial from Washington D.C to Springfield Illinois. The train was covered in black drapes and was known as The Lincoln Special. It travelled slowly and made stops along the way so the public could pay their last repescts. Also on the train was his son, who had died previously and whose body had been exhumed. Ever since then on the anniversary of his assassination, people who live near the railway have claimed that they have seen the funeral train passing by. Some even claim that they see a skeleton in the windows.
