In 1890 the residents of New London decided they needed a lighthouse at the entrance of the New London Harbour, They wanted it designed to fit in with the surrounding architecture. The lighthouse was constructed between 1906 and 1909 by the Hamilton R Douglas Company.
The warning light consisted of three white flashes and one red flash every thirty seconds it could be seen up to 18 miles away.
The lighthouse was manned by 3 Coast Guard Crew they would spend three weeks at the lighthouse and six days on shore, it was worked on up until 1987 when it became automated.
The lighthouse is haunted by an annoying mischievous ghost called Ernie who committed suicide by jumping of the lighthouse when he found out his wife had run of with the Captain of the ferry boat, he is known to open and shut doors, turn the television of and on and sound the horn.
