The cemetery was established in 1860,and was designed to be parklike in its appearance, it is one of Chicago's best known and most historic. It was originally out of the city limits, but as the city grew it was engulfed. The cemetery was originally on the lake front but was moved to Graceland due to overcrowding and the health dangers of water borne diseases, the old cemetery become what is now Lincoln Park.

The cemetery is the final resting place for many well known and famous people, including George Pullman an idustrialist, Bob Fitzsimmons a boxer and Fred A Busse former mayor.

Many of the headstones and tombs are great in their artistic and architectual design such as the Getty Tomb which was designed by Louis Sullivan who himself is buried at the cemetary.

tories of ghosts, and there is said to be quite a few here, one of the most well known hauntings is

that of Inez Clark, who died at the age of 6 when she was struck by lightening, her parents had a life size statue made of her which was placed on the grave and covered by a glass dome, the statue is reported to dissapear at times especially during thunderstorms.
