The pub - bar opened as The King’s Arms in 1611, it was renamed Grace Neill’s in the last century, after a previous landlady who is remembered today for many reasons one being the friendly welcome she gave customers by kissing them on the cheek. Grace died in 1918. The bar has played host to many different characters over the years, including smugglers in the early days to well known and famous people such as John Keats. The pub also as many antiques throughout its interior. The resident ghost at the bar is believed to be Grace. Who is a friendly spirit who no one needs to fear. She is thought to be the one responsible for scattering books, moving glasses, switching on electrical and making the floors creek when no one else is around.
