Dalkeith House Scotland

The original owners were the Grahams and they gave it to the Douglas family in the early 14th century. In the mid 15th century James Douglas became the first earl of Morton. Cardinall Beaton was imprisoned at Dalkeih in 1524 in 1547 the English forced it open and destroyed the building. It was rebuilt in 1575 by the 4th earl also named James. In 1642 the Buccleuch family bought the house and the estate. Again between 1701 - 1711 it was rebuilt under the guidance of Anne Duchess of Buccleuch and it used remnants of the original building. Some other minor additions were added by other people over the years.

Now the 9th Duke of Buccleuch as his main home at the Scottish borders and Dalkeith is leased to the University of Wisconsin as its Scottish base.

Dalkeith is said to be haunted by a lady with a child, a grey lady on the staircase and also different noises have been heard like the sound of music and bricks falling and spheres of light have been seen.
