Cryptozoology

Is the term for the study or research of animals whose existence is unproven.  The term cryptozoology is mostly attributed to zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans, but in his book In The Wake of a Sea Serpents, he attributes it to the late Scottish explorer Ivan T Sanderson. One of Heuvelman books written in 1959 On the Track of Unknown Animals (first published in France as Sur la Piste des Bêtes Ignorees),  is often considered to be one of the most influential works about crytozoology.
