The bridges spans 1,467 feet across the Arroyo Seco canyon, and links San Gabriel Mountains to the Los Angeles River. The bridge was built in 1913 and was designed and built by J A L Waddell firm. The first designed proved difficulity in finding suitable footings for the bridge, but this was solved by the engineer John Drake Mercereau who had the idea for curving the bridge.

Unfortunately the bridge as taken on the name of suicide bridge as this as become a popular spot for this.

The first death there was not a suicide though, it was a construction worker who fell over the side into a vat of concrete, his co workers thought it was to late to save him from the quick drying cvement so left him there. The first suicide was in 1919 and over the years many more have followed believed to be more than 100 people.

By the 80's the bridge had fallen into disrepair and made further worse by the earhquake in 1989, and for safety reasons was closed off. The bridge was reopened in 1993 after renovations costing $27 million. It was finished with its original detail and a suicide prevention rail. Though the amount of suicides as decreased it still retains its nickname.

Unsuprisingly their are many ghosts that are said to wander the bridge and the canyon below, including a women in a robe, a man wearing glasses and also the sound of crying can be heard.
