 The Chateau Marmont was built in 1927 and got its name from the street that runs at the back of it. It was built as an apartment house but because of the depression and the high rents it was not successful. It was changed to a hotel in 1931. Nine cottages were built by the hotel in 1930 and were acquired by the hotel in 1940. It is a well known place and as served as a backdrop for many actors and music stars. The hotel was brought and is still owned by Hotels AB, and is run by celebrity Andre Balazs. The hotel has hit the headlines many times due to things happening at the hotel such as it was the place where John Belushi died of a drug overdose in one of the cottages and it was also where James Dean auditioned for Rebel Without a Cause.The hotel is known to be very paranormally active, with a great deal of what seems every kind of activity happening from strange lights, to bangs and voices being heard to apparitions being seen.
