The lodge is situated in the Santa Cruz mountains. In 1870, it used to be the site of the Grover Lumber Mill, which was sold and converted into the lodge by Judge H J Logan in 1900 The dining room was built in the 1920's by the next owner Dr F K Camp, and is well known for its unique feature of having a natural brook running through it. Over the years the lodge has been host to many famous guests including movie stars and music celebrities. From there it has numerous different owners. During the 40's and 50's it became associated with gangsters and secret passageways and hidden rooms were installed throughout the lodge.

Quite a few paranormal things have been known to happen at the lodge such as the jukebox turning itself on, glasses and plates knocking together, low music has been heard, people have noticed the smell of gardenias even though there is none in the room, doors slam, footsteps have been heard and the ghost of Sarah as been seen, she is a 6 year old girl that tragically died at the lodge by drowning in the dining room brook.
