Bhangarh was once a town flourishing with over 10,000 people. It was built in the 17th century by Raja Madho Singh. But now all that remains are ruins. According to local tales the town had to be abandoned after a evil magican placed a curse on it stating that if the town was ever rediscovered that only temples would stay up. This remains true in that only temples dot the ladscape and even in the mountains there are only shrines.
The Goverment of India states that there as to be an office of Archaelogical Survey of India (ASI)next to every historical structure in India, but even they did not dare to build their office there, choosing to build it a kilometer away, and close to a temple. They even put a sign in Bhangarh saying that ' Staying after sunset is strictly prohibited in this area' as it is believed that anybody who goes after sunset will not return.
Bhangarh is open to tourist but you must have the permission from the ASI first, and go there entirely at your own risk.
The town is said to have a strange atmosphere and to still make people fear it and feel restless if they dare go there, and there have been reports of the sound of music and dancing even though there is no one around.
