Beaulie Abbey

Beaulieu Abbey was built in 1204 by Cistercian monks, on land given to them by King John. In that time the monks would have provided a place for visitors to stay .And lived by working their own land. A lot of the Abbey was destroyed during the reign of Henry VIII, (some of it still remained though), by the 15th century the number of monks had decreased, the Abbey was then used as a place for important guest to stay, and this is still true to this day with it being used for corporate hospitality and dining.

Beaulieu Abbey is now known to be a very haunted place with many sighting of a variety of ghosts including the Reverend Powles who was the vicar from 1886 till 1939 and the Grey Lady who is thought to be Countess Isabella, also voices are heard and sometimes the strong smell of incense.
